A key component to the sport of ice climbing is knowing how, when, and where to build anchors while on a climb. Learn the art of creating solid anchors that will withstand the highest forces that a climbing team can create. Build your confidence in venturing out on your own on ice climbs and be able to make effective choices about belay locations and build safe and efficient top rope anchors that can be used to lower climbers.
Introduction to Lead Climbing @ Keystone Canyon February 22, 2025 9:00 am - 12:00 pm -
This class is designed to introduce ice climbers to the gear and techniques associated with lead climbing on ice. Students will learn proper use of gear and equipment and will be shown different techniques and when to use them. Upon entering this class, the student must have knowledge of the basic gear and techniques associated with ice climbing. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE LEADING– All students will be on a top rope clipping a trail rope to the protection.

Looking to transition from single pitch routes to multi pitch? In this all day clinic you will learn how to make transitions more efficient, stance management, and how to manage a party of 3 in tight belays on longer ice routes. This is an intimate setting with only two students and the instructor. You will be climbing a multipitch route as part of this clinic, prior climbing experience required.

In this clinic you will step away from the ice and enter the unique and challenging world of dry tooling. You will learn how to use your tools and crampons to travel across rock, instead of ice. From tool placement to body position, this clinic will guide you through the fundamentals needed to become a proficient dry tooling climber. This is an all day clinic.

This intermediate course will focus on improving footwork, developing efficient tool placements/rests, and creating ease in both your style and your experience of the route. The goal of the course will be to develop the tools necessary to conserve energy for longer and harder pitches of ice.

Rejuvenate your muscles and mindset so you are ready to go again the next day! This clinic uses a multi-faceted approach to improve your climbing experience. We will engage in a yoga session that covers dynamic warm up, and static stretches for cool down. Learn which yoga postures correspond to the movements of ice climbing and how to employ efficient and good form. Explore antagonistic strength building and learn rehab and injury prevention techniques.

Climbing can be a dangerous sport, and accidents do happen. In this clinic you will learn how to avoid accidents by understanding what can go wrong in challenging terrain, questionable weather, or poor-quality ice. You will also cover what to do when you find yourself in an emergency situation and learn how to escape a belay or rescue your injured partner who is on lead halfway up a route.
